- Luck occurs when opportunity meets preparedness. I first heard this phrase when a UPS manager spoke to my marketing class back in college. He stressed the need for us to prepare for opportunities we didn't even know existed. Hold up, wait a minute. Rewind. Did he actually say prepare for opportunities we didn't know existed? Yeah, he did, and it was mind blowing. Fast forward a few years, and I realized, his advice was spot on. You can't predict what opportunities will come your way, but you can prepare yourself for when they do. All right. Let me walk you through some examples of how you can do this. Start by researching opportunities and you can do this by interviewing industry professionals in similar roles that you want to pursue. Ask them, what do they like about their job?
