The whole note
- The whole not is a very long note. It gets four counts or four beats. You'll count one, two, three, four, for each whole note. Clap the following rhythm. Clap once for each note, counting aloud. Hold the whole note for four ticks of the metronome. Notice the repeat sign at the end of the pattern. That means to go back to the beginning and clap the pattern again. (metronome ticking) One, two, ready, clap. One, two, three, four. (instructor clapping) One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. Aura Lee may be a familiar melody to you as it was made famous by Elvis Presley in his song Love Me Tender. Notice in the last measure that there is a repeat sign. So you'll be playing the piece twice. On the second time you can move your left hand up from bass C to middle C. This is called moving up an octave. An octave is eight notes. One, two, three, four. (piano music)
