Using the reference point

- Now in a previous movie, I mentioned how you have the option to either scale or, as it turns out, rotate a layer with respect to its center. And so the center may serve as the origin for the transformation, the stationary point. Turns out, however, you have the option of moving that origin to any location you like by changing the placement of what Photoshop calls the Reference Point. And, just to refresh your memory, I'll go up to the Edit menu and once again, choose Free Transform. And then notice how the rectangular transformation boundaries become much bigger. And that's because it has to include this angled image, which you can see in the thumbnail for this top layer. And as a result, I can't see the handles on the left-hand side. You can make them visible, however, by pressing that keyboard shortcut of Control-Zero, or Command-Zero on the Mac, which fits the transformation boundary inside the window. So…
