- [Instructor] Here's an image pretty much straight out of my camera. I think maybe I brightened it up a little bit. I was walking down the street, I saw all of these things that had fallen off this tree, and for some reason, it caught my eye that they were a different color than the pavement. So there could be this cool, contrasty thing. And then, I also had some lines to work with. So I shot this photo. And you're not really getting that contrasty thing here, and that's because I did not intend for this to be a color photo. I knew from the start that this was going to be a black-and-white photo. It's not always like that. Sometimes, I don't realize that something's black and white till after. At other times, I'm very clearly working in black and white from the beginning. So whether you're out in the world looking for scenes, or you're in your image library editing your images, how do you know when a photo would work better as black and white?
