Composing around light

- In Foundations of Photography: Composition, I discussed a lot of compositional ideas and worked through how to build up compositions using points, lines, shapes, light, shadow, balance, repetition, and so on. Those are critical building blocks for good composition and the more you study such ideas, the more you'll recognize potential subject matter when you're out shooting, and the more you'll be able to solve compositional problems when you find subject matter that you like. In this chapter, we're going to look at some more compositional ideas. This is partly to give you more compositional building blocks, but, just as importantly, this is simply a way to look at more images. The more images that you give thoughtful attention to, the more you build up and practice your innate compositional sense. Like the other images we're seeing in this course, most of these photos were shot by students in workshops with a few others that I have gathered up from some photographer friends…
