- The day of the review, showing up is just step one. If you want to stay on track and be productive, there are several things to keep in mind. First, after you welcome your employee and thank them for joining you, it's always smart to begin by sharing the agenda upfront to set expectations. Let them know how you'll proceed and be sure to tell them that you'll be making time for them to ask questions and offer any commentary they wish to share. Okay, the next several tips are really about productively shaping your interactions during the meeting. The first concerns interruptions. Even if you manage expectations correctly, the nature of the meeting often leads to more interrupting than normal. It's an important meeting. The person wants to understand you and to be heard, so interruptions might happen. When they do, kindly ask them to hold their thought as you finish your point, then ask for their comment.
