- After you've spent time crafting a message, watching and learning from other great speakers, practicing and gathering feedback you will become a stronger speaker, but let's be clear, you're not simply imitating others from whom you've learned. You're trying to find your own unique voice as a speaker. You want to learn from the greats, but then find your own comfortable style and keep things in perspective. This is a process. You're just trying to get better, on average, over time. So when practicing or rehearsing, the goal is to identify places in the presentation where things fell like they're working, where things appear to feel natural. Ask yourself why that's true. Maybe it's a particular topic you're addressing, or at the end of the talk when you're making suggestions. Knowing where you're most comfortable can help you improve your overall flow, because it helps you identify things you might add, or delete to improve your delivery.
