- If you're as old as I am, then you'll remember all the way back in 2007 when Twitter first burst onto the scene. You'll also recall how @ mentions or @ replies were a completely new concept at the time. In 2025, @ mentions are used pretty much everywhere. Most social media applications have some form of @ mention facility that allows you to tag others in direct messages, and the good news is Outlook is no different. Mentions are a way to tag or highlight a specific person directly within the body of your email using the @ symbol. For example, in this email here, there's a few of us working on this sales pitch and maybe I want to direct a specific action or a question to a member of the team. So I can type in an @ symbol and I'm going to direct this towards Harry and I'm going to ask him a question. (keyboard clicking) Now notice as soon as I @ mentioned Harry, his name appeared in the To line of the email. And mentions are particularly useful if you need to assign tasks or actions…
