Switch to new Outlook
- When you open Outlook in the morning, the interface more than likely looks like this. We have the familiar ribbon structure, menu systems, and dialogue boxes. This is classic Outlook. So the first thing we need to understand is how to switch to new Outlook. Fortunately, it is very simple. Take a look in the top right-hand corner and you should see a little toggle labeled "Try the new Outlook". Let's toggle this on and click on "Switch". Outlook will restart, and when it reloads, you'll be using the new Outlook experience. So if at any point you want to switch back to classic Outlook, simply toggle the slider off and wait for Outlook to restart. New Outlook has a different look and feel to classic Outlook. It feels more slick, modern, and in line with Outlook for the web. In new Outlook, we can also choose our preferred layout by modifying the ribbon display options. Cast your eyes over to the right-hand side where we have this little dropdown arrow. If we click it, we have two layout options: classic ribbon and simplified ribbon. Let's switch to simplified ribbon. The simplified ribbon is a streamlined version of the traditional Outlook ribbon toolbar. It reduces visual clutter, showing only the most commonly used commands and options, making it less overwhelming, especially for new and casual users. If we switch back to classic ribbon, this is the full multi-line toolbar you're used to from legacy versions of Outlook. It displays all available commands grouped by tabs. Many long-term Outlook users prefer the classic ribbon for its familiarity and fuller control. In this course, I'm going to use the classic ribbon for all lessons. So a final checklist before we get started: ensure you've switched to new Outlook and change the ribbon display option to classic ribbon. We're now ready to start exploring the new features and functionality of new Outlook.
