- Have you ever been tempted to run a search and just spam blast everyone who shows up in the results, not even looking at their profiles, just spray and pray, hoping something sticks. This is a huge mistake. Why? Well, lots of those candidates will be a total mismatch. Not only will they think you're lazy or inept at your job, they'll also be quick to delete your message, or worse, mark your as spam. And the ones who do respond, well, now your calendar's filled up with a bunch of phone screens for candidates who aren't even a strong match for the role. Talk about working hard, not smart. You could do 25 phone screens in a week and still not have a single viable candidate. Yikes. I find much greater success by taking the time to be a really strategic and picky sourcer, identifying a smaller batch of candidates who are a great match, rather than running a wide search and blasting dozens of unlikely candidates.
