- [Instructor] Maintenance effectiveness refers to looking at the performance level of equipment with ideal conditions over time, and maintainability represents the ease and costs of performing the maintenance necessary to maintain a piece of equipment. It is imperative to have a properly functioning maintenance system so we can increase our overall equipment effectiveness. There are a few main metrics in maintenance effectiveness explained as the following. MTTF, mean time to failure, that elapse time from the startup to the breakdown of the machine. MTBF, meantime between failure, this is the time from the previous breakdown to the current machine breakdown. MTTR, meantime to repair, this is the time from the previous breakdown to the machine startup. This is the total downtime for repairs divided by the number of repairs. The downtime for repairs encompasses all the time involved from when the equipment breaks down until it is up and running. Downtime includes waiting for the…
