- In the last video, I discussed getting out and not hesitating. I want to revisit that here because failing to act when an alarm goes off is common and it puts people at unnecessary risk. I am constantly amazed at the lack of reaction when a fire alarm goes off in an office or a public space. Maybe it's complacency from too many false alarms. Maybe it's just a failure to recognize the urgency or even what the alarm is. Or maybe people just look around and don't see any emergency in the immediate area, so they assume the alarm isn't for them. All of these are terrible reasons for not reacting to an alarm. And the failure to react could cost you and others in the building your lives. I've seen this failure to react firsthand. I was presenting to a large audience at a university one evening.
