- The majority of the world has adopted a system of classification known as GHS or the Globally Harmonized System of classification. The GHS system standardizes the way we talk about and categorize workplace chemicals and products that may be hazardous. It sets globally-recognized standards for defining things like flashpoint, and the terms flammable versus combustible that we discussed in the last video. The GHS system also mandates that specific information be communicated in a standard format that includes standardized labels and standardized product information sheets called safety data sheets. You may have heard of these referred to as SDSs in your workplace, and many countries require workplaces to have SDSs on hand so that they can be viewed by employees that might be exposed to hazardous products.
