Ethernet vs. InfiniBand

Ethernet vs. InfiniBand

When it comes to implementing networking for AI-centric data centers, Ethernet and InfiniBand are two common technologies. Let's focus on understanding Ethernet versus InfiniBand. Now, I'm not saying that one is better than the other, or one should not be implemented if another one is present. They may complement, and maybe you can find both of them being implemented in various aspects of your data center. Let's focus on understanding them through an analogy. Now, obviously, networks are used for communication, and same are used for roads. Roads are used for moving from one place to another place. Obviously, the road which we see today may not have happened 20 years, 2000 years ago. They may be different roads. So evolution of evolution of road, it happened gradually. So maybe initially there was just some dirt road, then maybe a little bit more specific like gravel roads, then came cobblestones, then maybe we have modern asphalt which we use for highways and then all the expressways.…
