Converged Ethernet (CE)

Converged Ethernet (CE)

You may have heard a word I have used called Converged Ethernet or CE. The specific word I used was ROCE. It is called RDMA over Converged Ethernet. So what is this Converged Ethernet? Let's talk a little bit on that. So verb converge is basically be adjacent to or come together. That is what converge is. The lines converge at this point. That is a good example of it. What happens in a traditional network, you would have a LAN traffic, you would have HPC traffic, and you would have storage traffic, which is called SAN, storage area network traffic. But when I talk, which means we need to have three types of connectors here, connector one, connector two, connector three. We need to have three types of cables in our environment, and we need to have three types of switches, which makes it very complicated. So instead of having everything separate, we came up with the idea that, OK, why don't we create something called a converged Ethernet? So physically, it is one cable. Obviously, there…
