The importance of a call to action (CTA)
- Have you ever looked at someone's website and wondered what you were supposed to do there? That site is missing a call to action or CTA. The call to action is a clear explanation of what you should do next once you've watched this commercial, read this advertisement, looked at your social media feed, or opened an email. Often the CTA is to buy something, but it doesn't have to be. It could be register for an email list, send a letter to your congressperson, request more information, or download a PDF. Your website should be clear about what you'd like someone to do once they finished reading it. And don't ask nicely and passively and with subtlety. You want to be super clear about what you'd like your visitor to do next. A good call to action should be direct and feature action verbs.
