User identities in NB-IoT: IMSI and TMSI

Let's now talk about some of the key user identities that are used when a mobile device interacts with the network, and these identities help in user authentication, session management, security, and privacy. The first one is IMSI, which is International Mobile Subscriber Identity. As the name signifies, it's a globally unique identifier that helps the network recognize and authenticate the user before providing any service. So when a device first connects to the network, it presents its Emsi to the network. The network uses the Emsi to look up the subscriber's profile in the HSS. And if this user is legitimate and valid, the user is only then authenticated and services will be provided. After this initial authentication the IMSI is usually not reused for every interaction and the reason is the privacy. If we talk about IMSI it is consisting of different parts.
