Embracing microbravery to train your brain
- Our brains are hardwired to prefer familiar patterns and predictable environments. But this contradicts the fact that we can only grow and develop our capacities through stepping out of our comfort zones. So to increase your tendency for openness to change, practice micro-braveries. This means regularly challenging yourself in small ways that make you more comfortable with change and uncertainty. Consciously incorporate slight variations to your daily routine. Initiate a conversation with someone from a different department. Try a new cafe. Change your commute route. Offer to chair a meeting. Or volunteer for a small project that requires new skills. Acclimatizing yourself to discomfort will prepare you to deal with change and seek out the opportunity it brings.
