Speaking confidently on complex topics

- You can be a confident speaker without being effective. You know, all talk and no action, but you can't be an effective speaker without being confident. Here is a three-step strategy to 10x your confidence. First, identify the symptoms of low confidence. These are the telltale signs that give away the fact that you're not super confident when you're speaking. Are you mumbling? Are you not in control of your gestures? Are you using way too many filler words? Step two, identify your confidence dampeners. These are thoughts or limiting beliefs that you hold, that hold you back. Do you feel like you are not the person who's the most qualified to be talking about your subject? Do you feel like the audience is judging you? Do you simply feel like you're not prepared enough every single time that you speak? Three, create your confidence builders. Now that you know what's actually getting you down, you can work on intentionally countering your limiting belief and building up your confidence. Challenge your limiting beliefs. Give yourself evidence of all the times that you've excelled at your work. You have very specific experiences that other people don't and can benefit from. Get out of your head. Practice and focus on the audience. Get to know your audience as much as you can before you speak. If you focus on being perfect all the time, you will always be self-conscious. But if you start focusing on the audience on how can you best communicate your message to your audience, it will take the focus away from you and towards the people that you're serving. Three-step strategy, 10x your confidence.
