- How to manage constant interruptions from chatty colleagues. Let's say you're sitting next to someone whose constant chitchat is impacting your productivity and increasing your stress. Rather than silently enduring the disruptions, assertively address it with these three steps. One, start on a positive note. "I really enjoy our chats." Two, address your concern. "I also know that if we keep talking, "I won't get anything done today." Three, suggest an alternative. "How about we catch up over lunch instead?" And if they continue, use a conditional statement. If...then... "If you keep talking to me while I'm trying to focus, "then I'll need to wear headphones "or find a quieter spot to work."
