Leverage LinkedIn after a layoff
LinkedIn will be one of the most important tools in your toolbox when searching for jobs. Make sure you do these four things. First, click the jobs tab at the top of your browser or in the bottom of your mobile app and turn on job alerts. Set multiple alerts for different regions and job titles you're interested in. Second, use LinkedIn's interview preparation feature. You'll get tips from experts and be able to practice your interview responses through video or by writing them down. Third, indicate that you're open to work on your profile. Add what roles you're looking for, the locations you want to work in, how soon you're ready to start, and what job types you're looking for. You can indicate here whether you only want people using LinkedIn Recruiter to see it or everyone on LinkedIn. You can also add an open to work banner on your profile photo. Fourth, if a job posting you're interested in lists the hiring manager or the recruiter, send them a personalized note with a connection request. Let them know what role you applied for, why you're excited, and what you would bring to the role. This initiative and proactiveness is often a great way to get your resume to the top of the pile.
