Be transparent
- It is no secret that Gen Z is very skeptical of authority, and they're very skeptical of a lot of the traditional corporate practices that we have. And one of the tools that we have access to to help bring down some of that skepticism is our ability to be transparent about our journeys through corporate America. And so if you are someone who is leading a team, there is an expectation that you are going to be open and honest and transparent about your strengths, but also your weaknesses, your growth areas, and the lessons that you've learned along the way. And so if that is not an area that you feel comfortable in or you feel confident in, this is an opportunity for you to practice. Find some low hanging fruit, things that you've experienced that you know that they will also have to navigate and find opportunities to share them in a way that don't feel performative, but also feel like a way that you can connect with them. One of the things that comes to mind is, when it comes to reorgs, if you are more senior, it's probably been through a few reorgs. And as someone who's Gen Z or newer in the workplace, they probably don't have experience with that, and it causes them to feel unstable or a little bit fearful. This is an opportunity for you to share transparently, how you've navigated those things to hopefully help them be able to navigate it better.
