- [Presenter] MySQL isn't the only relational database to choose from. There is also Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and IBM Db2. So what are they, and how are these other databases used? Oracle was created by Larry Ellison and former coworkers at Software Development Lab in 1977 with CIA funding. It is one of the most used database systems today, with "World of Warcraft" managing its massive online role-playing game using Oracle. Microsoft SQL Server is used mostly by big corporations and uses Transact-SQL as an extension to SQL. SQL Server has been giving Oracle a run for their money and is also one of the most used database systems today. PostgreSQL, used by companies like Tripadvisor and Red Hat, is free and focuses on optimizing response times. IBM Db2 is mostly used by enterprise companies, mainly on Unix or mainframes.
