Identify and create appropriate keys for relationships
- [Instructor] In this sub-lesson, we're going to identify and create appropriate keys for relationships. All right, so a key is a unique identifier for a table. It is important for uniquely identifying individual entries in our data. They will also help with joins and defining relationships. Power Query also offers an auto index option, but this would not be appropriate for joins. So let's get over to the Power BI desktop and take a look. All right, so I'm over on the Power BI desktop, and we can see here that we've got a data model that has several queries in it, and we're taking a look at the sales query here and we see we've got an order date, a product key, customer key, and sales territory region key. If I move over here we can see we got a promotion name key and all of these columns right here, which are key columns, which are going to join to another table, and in fact a dimension table, these ideally should be some numeric value.
