Edit the content of a list
- [Instructor] In other videos, we saw how to add items to a list. In this video, I want to focus on the different ways to edit or make changes to the items that you already have on a list. I'll start by going to my product inventory list, and I want you to remember each item on your list is represented by a row and each column contains different information about each item. And a great way to edit multiple items in a large list like this one is to switch to the grid view. So in the toolbar at the top, I'll choose edit and grid view, and this shows the entire list in a view that's similar to a spreadsheet, so you can click on any cell to edit that information. So I want to change what I have in the category field for this first item. So I can click on that field and I can just make the change there. When you're finished, you can hit the enter key on the keyboard and you can hit the tab key to jump to the next cell, or you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move to another cell. Once you have the cell that you want selected, you can hit the enter key to make a change. Then you can type in the change that you want to make. Once again, hit the enter key and that will save that change. And when you're finished editing in the grid view, you can go to the toolbar and choose exit and grid view. And now we're back to the normal view and I can see those changes have been applied. Now a quick way to edit any of the information for one single item is to click on the title of that item, and the title for each item is always in the first column, the title column. So if I click on the title for this first item, it opens up this panel, and from here you can see the information contained in each column represented as a field. Each of these fields corresponds to the columns in my list. And to change the information in any of these fields, you can just click on that field. So I'm going to change the title for this item. So I'll just click on that field. I'm just going to change this to 180x. And you'll see as soon as I click outside of that field, it will save that change. And because I can still see it over here on the left, I can see that change has been applied in the list view as well. So I could click on another field here and make a different change. So I actually want this to be Solar panels series 1, formatted like that. Click outside of that field and that change has been applied. Now from there, you could just click outside of this panel to close it. Or if you want to spend a bit more time editing multiple fields in this panel, or if you just don't want it to auto save, you can click where it says edit all. Then you can make multiple changes, but you will need to click the save button when you're finished. But for now, I'll just cancel that and then I can click outside of this panel to close it. Now, another option would be to start by selecting an item by clicking the circle to the left of it. With that item selected, you could click the edit button up here in the toolbar or you'll also notice when you point at an item, this button with three dots will appear. So you can click on that to open up a menu and then you can choose edit from there. And you can make a change here in the same panel. So I'm going to make a change here. I'll add series 2 here. Then I'll click save and you can see that change has been applied. And you can also edit multiple items at the same time. First, you'll need to select them just by clicking that circle over to the left of them. So I'm going to select all of these. Then I'll click edit in the toolbar. And if you do this, any change that you make will be applied to all of the items that you have selected. So I'm going to do that. I'm going to change the category for all of the selected items to be Solar panels series 2, then I'll click save, and we can see that change has been applied to all of the items that I had selected. And I can click up here to unselect those items. Now finally, you may want to delete an item on your list and there's a few ways to do that. Remember, when you point at an item, this button with three dots will appear so you can click on that to open this menu and then you can choose delete to delete that item. Or you could select an individual item by clicking the circle next to it. Or you can select multiple items by clicking the circle next to those. And then up in the toolbar at the top, you have the delete option. And when you click on that, it will ask you to confirm. But I don't want to actually delete these so for now I'll just click cancel. And so that's how you can add, edit, or delete information in your lists.
