- [Instructor] Microsoft Entra ID, or in short, MEID, is a global identity as a service solution. It was previously known as Azure Active Directory, but Microsoft rebranded it to Microsoft Entra ID in July of 2023. Entra is actually an umbrella of services supporting different identity and access scenarios. Identity as a service is a subset of SaaS because Entra ID provides the software that's on the directory server as a service ready to use. So when we specify identity as a service, we are just accurately describing what type of service it offers, but it essentially is SaaS. It's a global service because it's not confined to a single region of your tenant. Entra is the first line of defense for all your cloud resources.
