- Welcome back. This is 7.4. Configure and Monitor activity performance. When wanting to know what is happening in your database real-time or near real-time, there are several places you can look to monitor database activity and performance. I'll list them here. Then we'll discuss each in detail. We'll first look at the Azure portal and the dashboards and metrics available there. Next, we'll discuss extended events. We'll then look at Data SQL Database Watcher, a managed monitoring solution for database services in the Azure SQL Family. And then lastly, we'll look at the Query Store. Okay, let's start with the Azure Portal. You can monitor the performance of your database through the Azure Monitoring dashboards. You can monitor a variety of resource metrics, which enable you to see the overall activity of the database. These metrics provide live as well as historical performance insights.
