- [Instructor] Here we've got some new terms and acronyms to know for our AI 102 and beyond. First, named entity recognition is a way to label, but much more perhaps, well, not perhaps, actually, sensitively, because when you're doing NER, you're identifying objects in the text potentially by name and maybe they're real live human beings. So it's really important actually for our AI 102 success that we understand that NER is different from personally identifiable information, or PII detection. There in the API we're concerned with actually redacting sensitive data, like Social Security numbers in the US, emails, phone numbers. We also, the API can use categorization to help us with these classifications. So we're doing a lot of labeling, which is a machine learning classification task. But depending on what your goals are, named entity recognition is meant for just judgment free classification, if that makes sense.
