Describe identity and access management solutions in Microsoft 365: Part 1
- [Instructor] So the first thing in securing your organization is to understand authentication and authorization. Authentication determines who you are, whether that's a user or whether that's a device. Authorization determines what access, to things like files, or capabilities to perform management tasks you have. There are a number of identity providers that you might encounter in Microsoft 365. On-premise identities are managed with Active Directory Domain Services, which is a Windows Server role. Cloud identities can be provided in the Microsoft environment with Azure Active Directory or Azure AD. You can implement Windows virtual machines in Azure in an infrastructure-as-a-service mode. And then having installed with a server, you would promote those machines as domain controllers. So in essence, what you're doing is moving on-premise, Active Directory domain controllers into the Azure Cloud. Alternatively, Azure provides a managed service known as Azure AD Domain Services.
