Understanding the UV editor
- [Instructor] When you work with more complex objects, you will need to use what's called the UV Editor. And this lets you dig down on a vertex by vertex level to control how an image maps to your object. Now, I've already unwrapped this object, so I just want to show you some of the basics of how UVs work, and then we'll go ahead and unwrap an object. So let's go ahead and select this guy, and I'm going to hide my outliner, and we're going to go into Windows, Modeling Editors, UV Editor. And this brings up this window. So let me go ahead and reposition this guy so we can see what's going on. Now the UV Editor has a lot of different options here, but I'm going to focus mostly on this main window. Now this is just a viewport, it's like an orthographic viewport. You can navigate it by holding Command or Alt, and using your mouse just like any other viewport.
