Setting Up USD stages
- [Instructor] USD stands for Universal Scene Description, and that's becoming a standard file format that's used throughout high-end productions. Now mostly it's used by bigger studios that have a lot of people that are working on a project. If you're just working on one project by yourself, you probably don't need USD, but if you're working with other people, it can become really, really useful. Now USD works differently than a format such as FBX. FBX stores all of its data in one big file. USD tends to break down scenes into individual components, and then it references those components back into the scene. So it's very similar to Maya's referencing system, except it's more universal. It works with a lot of other outside packages. So if you're working with multiple types of software with a lot of people, then USD can really become a great way to exchange data.
