Creating NURBS surfaces

- [Instructor] Maya can use curves to create what are called NURBS surfaces. Now, we haven't worked with NURBS surfaces before, so let me show you quickly the differences between a NURBS and a polygonal surface. Here I have two spheres. If I left click and drag and do a marquee selective both, you'll see that well they are fundamentally different. The polygonal surface on the left has a lot more detail where the NURBS surface on the right is basically defined by curves. So if you kind of zoom into the polygonal surface, you'll see it has faces, edges, and vertices. And so the edges are actually straight line, but in a NURBS surface it's actually a curve. If I were to select this NURBS surface right click, go into say, Control Vertex mode, I could select these vertices or control vertices and hit my move tool. And you'll see that well this deforms a lot more organically. So it's kind of more of an organic way to model. But the problem with NURBS surfaces is that it's really hard to…
