Copywriting tips for your personal posts on LinkedIn
- [Instructor] Every week on LinkedIn, millions of people around the world look at content in the newsfeed, which is great, but it also begs the question, how will you make sure that your content stands out and is seen by the right people? Understand the mechanics. You'll need to know the technical aspects of the LinkedIn platform when it comes to creating written content. For example, what is the character limit? For personal profiles on LinkedIn, a post can be up to 3000 characters. An article, on the other hand, allows up to 120,000 characters. What text format works best? On LinkedIn, posts with a strong one word sentence opening line encourages a reader to click see more and broken up paragraphs enhance the content's readability. Are hashtags necessary. The right hashtags, used sparingly to avoid appearing spammy, can help your content be found by people who search for content with that hashtag, so I do recommend them. Next, know your audience. It's important to consider the intentions of your audience on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a professional social networking platform where people want to learn, connect, and grow. Using a personal story is okay, but it should always tie back to business. The key is to ask yourself, could this story help the reader grow in their career? Another important distinction is that LinkedIn is for busy professionals and it is often used during the workday rather than during time off. So make sure that your content is clear, concise, and easily scannable for somebody with coffee in one hand and their phone in another. Next, you'll want to master an effective writing formula. There are loads of different copywriting formulas out there, but one that I've always used looks like this. What, here's where I share my story and what happened to me. Why, here's where I explain why my story matters for the reader. Next and last, I clearly communicate with a strong call to action what the reader should do next. Using a formula like this helps you to create consistently compelling written content on LinkedIn. Finally, you'll want to be sure to use power words. In copywriting, power words grab attention, set the tone, and motivate your audience to take action. Here are three power words that can motivate your audience to take action. You directly addresses a reader or listener, creating a sense of personal engagement. Because provides justification, encourages compliance, and clarifies reasoning. Now implies immediacy and urgency, prompting people to act quickly. For more formulas and ideas, check out my course, Marketing Copywriting for Social Media, right here on LinkedIn Learning.
