Optimizing your Instagram business profile to gain more followers
- [Instructor] When using Instagram for business purposes, it's important to optimize your Instagram profile so that people know who you are, what your mission is, and where they can find out more about your organization. From your profile page in Instagram, tap on the Edit Profile button towards the top left of the screen. On this screen, we have a number of different fields that we can fill out to give people more information about who we are here on Instagram. The first two fields are very similar. The first one is for the real name of the person or organization using the account. So you can see we have Two Trees Olive Oil with capitals and spaces in there. The second field is the account username. So the first field is your more professional-looking name on Instagram. You can actually put spaces in it. And then the second field is really just your username, so you can enter, you know, something related to your organization, but within the confines of what Instagram will allow. If you want to enter pronouns for your organization, you can do that in the third field. We also have the opportunity to add a short bio to our Instagram account. So throughout this course, I'm going to be using an olive oil company called Two Trees Olive Oil as an example for marketing on Instagram. So for our description, we entered "Nurturing a third generation olive oil legacy blending tradition with innovation. It's the secret sauce. Join our journey." I really want to stress that this should be a short description because people aren't going to read an entire history or huge mission statement here on Instagram. They're here to look at photos. So short, sweet, and to the point is best. It's really important to enter a website in the links field. So you can see on this screen, we have the option to add an external link, which we've already done. We've linked to our webpage twotreesoliveoil.com. We could also link to a Facebook page or profile. It's really important to enter links here because we need to give people a place to go outside of Instagram where they can find out more about our brand and the products or services that we sell. Make sure that you add a website in there. So because we've turned our Instagram profile into a professional account, we have some other options here. First of all, in the page section, you can link to your Facebook page. In the category, you can select a category. Now, this is maybe a little bit more important than it first looks because the category that you select will determine the call to action options that you have later on in your settings, which we'll look at in a minute. So for this company, I've chosen the food and drink category, but choose the one that best describes your organization. And if you don't like the call to action options that you are presented with, you can try and change your category later on. Now, it's also a good idea to add some contact options so that people can get in touch with you if they have any questions about your products or services. And then you'll notice that in the section that says Action Buttons, this is exactly what I'm talking about. Instagram has a number of connected services. So if we tap on Order Food, we could choose one of these partners that we can use to have people order food right directly here from Instagram. And again, these options are going to change based on your category, but you can also create lead forms at the bottom. So if you're just looking to get information, you can tap on Add Lead Form, and you can just use the Instagram standard lead form, or you can create your own custom lead form. So that is a good option as well. And again, you don't have access to this unless you've changed your Instagram profile into a professional account. Now the last thing, and probably the most important thing, is to add a profile photo to your Instagram account so that people can easily recognize who you are when they see the thumbnail photo next to your comments or your photos that you've uploaded to Instagram. So you can see from the Edit Profile screen at the top, we have the option to edit the picture or avatar. So if we tap on that, you'll notice that we can now take a photo or we could import it. So what I recommend doing is to actually email yourself a photo of your logo and send it to an email address that you have access to on a mobile phone. Go ahead and open up the email and then you can save the image to your photos. Then go back over to Instagram, choose From Library, and then go ahead and choose your logo. Keep in mind that Instagram profile photos are shown in circular fashion, so it's a good idea to choose a logo or a logo variation that works well in the circular format. From here, we could zoom in if we wanted to, if the photo wasn't already cropped nicely, but we've got it just the way we want it, so we'll go ahead and we'll tap Done. When we do that, we're brought back to our Instagram profile and all of the information that we just added or adjusted should be displayed publicly. Our profile now looks a lot more professional, and users will know who we are and what we do when they access our profile page.
