One-on-ones are some of the most precious time you have with your manager. Let's make sure you are using yours to the fullest and know that does not mean you are just providing status updates that you could share via e-mail. Instead, I want you to start your one-on-ones with key achievements and milestones. You're going to place the focus on outcomes, not just on tasks. Instead of saying, I had three client calls, that can become, we're close to closing two deals with 100K in potential revenue. I sent the proposal to the executive team, that can be upgraded to, I got sign off from the CFO on the budget, so we can start hiring next month. Notice how you are not just saying what you did, you are highlighting the result, what changed, what was achieved, what's now possible. And listen, even if you don't have a glowing update to share, that won't always be the case, you can still highlight how you're navigating challenges.
