Even the best bosses can get a little prickly when you say no. Just look at it from their perspective. When your leader is under a lot of stress or facing pressure from above them, even the kindest manager may not like it if you are refusing to cover just a few meetings for them. Here's the thing, you do not have to cave if you face resistance or get confrontational either. I want you to do this. Tune into their personal radio station, WII FM. What's in it for me? By that I mean, explain how your boundary can actually lead to better results. My client Veda did this when her very detail-oriented boss requested she rush an analysis. So Veda reframed it. She said, I can deliver this in two days, but the data won't be cross-checked. If we push it to Tuesday, you'll get the accuracy you need to present this confidently to leadership.
