Challenges of a hybrid team
- I once worked with a project manager who was used to working in an office amongst colleagues until her company shut their physical doors and moved their entire workforce into home offices. She described the transition with agony. As she talked about her new shifting processes, she'd say things like "My work was hard before but now it's like pulling teeth." All teams share some of these challenges, silos, communication barriers, a lack of trust. The list is long. But hybrid teams experience some challenges in unique ways. And those tend to prevail unless we do something about them. There are three obstacles that seem to be the most prevalent on hybrid teams I've encountered. Let's start with the obvious. The requirement to have technological savvy, when you're on a hybrid team, is an emerging job requirement. It takes a certain amount of figuring it out and perseverance to collaborate using tech platforms and systems.…
