From the course: Machine Learning with SageMaker by Pearson

Course overview

Let's kick this off by defining our goal for this course and understanding the purpose of this course. Purpose of this course, as its name implies, is to give you a firm understanding of the SageMaker tool set within Amazon Web Services. The SageMaker tool set allows you to build, train, deploy and manage machine learning models on Amazon Web Services. This course does focus on the practical application of machine learning in AWS, solving real problems. We're going to be looking at some common data sets throughout this course, such as sales predictions and loan approval predictions. And why? Why might you want to do this? The reasons for taking this course are, of course, your own. However, it could position you for more in-demand machine learning job roles, as ML and AI are becoming more prevalent on the job posting boards. Some recommended knowledge here, it is recommended to be familiar with Python, as well as basic Amazon Web Services, such as Simple Storage Service, IAM for authorization and authentication, EC2 for Elastic Compute, or basically virtual machines in the cloud or virtual private cloud. This is all recommended knowledge. This course does do hands-on implementation and therefore having some experience with AWS is helpful. This course is broken up into four different modules, starting out with data preparation for machine learning, where we will talk about data formats and how to handle outliers in data sets and things like that. Then we'll talk about actually creating a machine learning model. Then we will talk about deployment and orchestration of machine learning workflows. And finally, we'll talk about monitoring, maintenance, and security of your models. I deliver this with slides, of course, as well as live demonstrations. Several of the lessons in this course do have demonstrations available. And the code that is used with those demonstrations is available on Bitbucket at that URL that you see right there. A bit about me. I work for Cisco Customer Experience right now. I came from Denali Integration, where I came from Cisco Advanced Services. So I went from Cisco to a partner and then back to Cisco. Prior to that, I was in financial. I also was in the Marine Corps. I'm a Cisco Press technical editor, as well as a Pearson video author, as this course demonstrates. I have some certifications that you see there listed on the bottom of the screen as well.
