- It's hard to discuss trends without making comparisons of today and tomorrow, and especially with yesterday. Our view to the future may be a bit obscure, but our perspective on the past is pure clarity. A helpful way to get a grip on any kind of forecast is to identify a cycle. Weather is a cycle. We know that 365 days from now, the weather is probably going to be about what it is today, and a year after that and so on and so forth. If something goes up, it will come down. If color becomes intense, people probably follow with a cycle of calm. Rinse and repeat. A pendulum is a useful way to envision any trend, as it will swing back and forth over time, and will start to slow as it reaches that point of saturation before it reverses and swings back to the opposite direction. The crazy part is tracking legions of pendulums all attributed to some nuance or aesthetic, and at various points in their cycle, the combinations become infinite.
