Balance act

- My good friend Jerry Kuyper is an astonishing designer that's had a career of remarkable skill and impeccable timing. Jerry has designed some of the most memorable and acclaimed logos, including the original AT&T globe, the World Wildlife Fund Panda, the Cisco Systems logo, and a cast of others that'll just make you jealous. He has at least one other skill that is lesser known, but which boggles my mind. He stacks rocks. Hmm. Someday you're going to be walking on the shore and you'll see a crazy, tall balancing tower of rocks and think of my friend. Yeah. Balance is such a fundamental design skill, but in this trend set, I feel like the marks are a team of acrobats, gingerly contorting themselves into the most delicate arrangements. Solid, but just teetering in a way that makes me want to hold my breath. Now, I say this, but there is a sturdy, solid weight to these logos that park them in the durable stall, and it's probably that weight that makes these work. No concern here that…
