From the course: Linux: User and Group Management

Welcome

- [Grant] Linux workstations and servers around the world have millions of users logging into them every day. Being able to manage those users is a necessity for businesses to function. Creating user accounts and managing their login settings, account aging, and access control will allow you to manage a Linux system without creating security vulnerabilities. In this course, you'll learn how to create users and groups as well as locking accounts and expiring passwords when necessary. You'll learn which elements make a password strong and how one way hashing algorithms are not all created equal. You'll use this information to change system policies to force strong user passwords. In this course, you'll also learn how users can change into password protected groups and when necessary, users granular access control system called sudo. Knowing how to elevate privileges without logging in as a super user makes your system more secure and less disaster prone. My name is Grant McWilliams. I love Linux and I'm excited to teach you. So let's get started.
