- [Instructor] The LEED rating system ensures a minimum indoor air quality performance by mandating minimum ventilation standards. LEED prerequisite minimum indoor air quality performance ensures that all occupied spaces are ventilated with fresh air at all times, and wide assured by meeting the requirements of ASHRAE Standard 62.1. For the LEED Green social exam, you need to know that ASHRAE Standard 62.1 applies to ventilation, strategy, and design. Project teams can earn points if they increase the ventilation rates by at least 30 percent above the minimum rate required by the prerequisite. By doing that, the project teams need to pay attention to trade-offs for increased ventilation. For example, bringing an increased amount of outside air to indoor spaces can result in cooling or heating more air and increases energy consumption.
