From the course: Learning Windows Subsystem for Linux

Windows Subsystem for Linux

- Windows subsystem for Linux is a feature of Windows that allows us to run a Linux system within our Windows system. This saves us from having to set up a separate Linux system or from having to manage virtualization software that can often take a lot of configuration and system resources. The goal of Windows subsystem for Linux or WSL is to allow us to use Linux tools on our Windows computer, whether that's to perform basic Linux tasks or to do software development. WSL provides interoperability between the Windows and Linux file systems, making accessing both systems very easy. I'm Scott Simpson. And, in this LinkedIn learning course we'll explore how WSL works and we'll explore how to configure it. We'll see some of the basics of managing a Linux system and we'll take a look at using WSL in various development workflows. If you're ready to explore how having a Linux system right within your Windows environment can help your work, let's go.
