- Have you ever backed out of an interaction because you simply did not trust the person? You felt that, deep down, even if the interaction went well, they would not follow through with what they promised, or worse, they would say one thing, but really mean another. When it comes to communication, most of us know what it feels like when trust is missing, but at the same time, it can be hard to describe exactly what trust is. Here are three clear ways in which I define trust. One: building trust means reducing uncertainty. Simply put, when you communicate with someone, there should be no surprises. Don't tell your partner that the meeting will be about one thing, but when they show up, it's about something else entirely. For example, don't tell your coworker that a meeting will be about improving team dynamics, but when they show up, the meeting is really about their lack of contribution to the team.
