Monitoring system resources
- [Instructor] All computers slow down over time, most likely because they keep doing so much. Sudden slowdowns, however, have a specific cause. The effect you see is a slower computer because resources are being consumed at a higher rate than usual. To find the culprit, you monitor system resources. In a computer system, the resources most directly associated with speed are the processor, memory, storage, network access, and the graphics processor. Other resources come into play, but when some program attempts to hog one or more of these items, you know about it quick. The first place to look for a resource hog is the Task Manager. Press Control + Shift + Escape, and if you see the limited version of the Task Manager, as shown here, click More details and you can see that the Task Manager contains a lot of detailed information.
