- [Instructor] The data encryption tool in Windows 10 is called BitLocker. You apply this encryption to any media attached to your computer. Start by opening a file explorer window. Press the Windows e keyboard shortcut. From the left side of the window, choose this PC to view attached media available to the computer and select the drive you want to encrypt. I'll choose this one. From the ribbon, choose manage drive tools, BitLocker, turn on BitLocker. The BitLocker utility examines the drive. Choose to apply a password to the protected drive. Type the password twice, as you're used to by now, and ensure that it's a nice cryptic password that no one can guess. The smart card option works when you have a smart card reader available on the computer. I don't, so I'm using a password. Microsoft recognizes that humans often lose passwords.
