Estimation helps predict and plan work. You probably use estimates all the time when you tell your partner you're running 10 minutes late, or when you compare proposals to remodel your kitchen. Estimates are a way to set expectations and communicate the scope of work. Sometimes a request sounds quick and easy, but the reality is much different. An estimate helps communicate the expected effort. While estimation is very useful, it's not at all easy to do, and I struggle with estimation myself. But the more I do it, the better I get. And next time there's a similar task, I can use my last estimate as a reference. The goal is to provide your best guess and improve accuracy over time. In Jira, estimates are used to determine how long an issue may take to complete and how many issues may be accomplished in a certain time frame.
