- [Instructor] OPC stands for Open Platform Communications. OPC name was originally referred to OLE for Process Control, Object Linking and Embedding for Process Control. Both names are still used in industry and mean the same thing. The OPC Foundation is responsible for the development and the maintenance of this standard. OPC is the standard for secure and reliable exchange of data in industrial automation and in other industries, like industrial internet of things. It ensures the seamless flow of information among devices from multiple vendors. OPC is implemented in a server/client pairs. The OPC client and OPC server relationship is a parent/child one, where the server is the parent and client is the child. So let's see what an OPC client means.
