Concept generation
Imagine you've just identified a promising opportunity area in synthesis. However, this clear human need and a viable business opportunity can still result in run-of-the-mill ideas or me-too solutions. Fresh new ideas are hard to come by through everyday thinking, so we need tools to push our thinking. Many of the concept generation tools are based in lateral thinking, a term coined by psychologist Edward de Bono. It's an approach to creativity that introduces stimuli that disrupt the way we normally think about the problem or the solutions. During concept generation, teams use these methods to produce as many ideas as possible. Afterwards, we evaluate and select the best ideas to evolve and move forward. We might then seek feedback from possible users or do deeper feature definition to determine how this great new idea will work for the for the business or take any number of other steps, depending on where we are in the development cycle.
