Why visualize data?
- [Instructor] There are a lot of really good reasons to visualize data, but there are three that rise above all the rest. First of all, humans are visual creatures. Literally, about half of your brain is devoted to processing the information that comes in through your eyeballs. Your eyeballs, by the way, have 70% of all the sensory receptors in your body. Humans experience the world visually, first and foremost. Second, we're visual learners. There's a well known psychological phenomenon called the Picture Superiority Effect, which has shown via a variety of experiments that humans remember pictures better than words. So if you want to teach someone something about your data and you want them to remember it, a picture will outperform a description of the data and a table of numbers.
